  17. traffic stop in 1989; after the jury deadlocked; in Long Beach.
  18. The incident received national attention because a television
  19. news crew videotaped Dickey apparently pushing Jackson's head
  20. through a store window in Long Beach. Dickey claimed that
  21. Jackson, who is a black former police sergeant, had provoked him
  22. by exiting from his car and swearing. The prosecution said it
  23. would not retry the officers.
